Abstract

Human trafficking is a crime against humanity and affects men, women, and children, with sexual exploitation being the most widespread form. Despite international efforts, the human trafficking industry remains profitable, indicating a gap between policies, implementation, and practice. The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has greatly affected the sex trafficking business, especially for women fleeing conflict zones. A feminist perspective is needed to address the gender-specific vulnerabilities and power dynamics that contribute to sex trafficking. This paper aims to highlight the necessity of a gender-based lens on sex trafficking and the experiences of women to generate change.
