Since the outbreak of the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border in 2021, as a part of the grassroot Border Group coalition we have been collecting data related to humanitarian aid provided to the people on the move. The information gathered not only allows emergency aid to be provided consequently, but it also serves as the basis for creation of advocacy and litigation strategies of ours and other associated actors. The methodology that is being created is based on over 17 000 individual demands for aid and further communication with people on the move collected from direct (online) contact and secondary (from humanitarian workers) relations.
This paper aims to revise the formation process of methodology developed in an unwelcoming, unprecedented socio-political context, where existing data collection methods and protocols were and still are impossible to apply and safety measures often lead to data gathering being done in an inconsistent and fragmented manner.
