Bio Maria is a globally recognised expert in the fields of global health and development, particularly in the fields of disability, social justice, humanitarianism, and disaster public health research. Her work is located at the intersection of theory, policy, and practical application, and is by its nature often cross-disciplinary. Much of her research has focused on how to improve inclusion of persons with disabilities in humanitarian contexts and has impacted the work and policies of the UN and other national and international bodies. More recent work has focused on the impact of climate change, and the consequences of social exclusion. She has published widely in the field.
