| Bio | Shomari Kiete is a community organizer, gender equality advocate, and climate justice activist from DRC. Over past several years, he worked with local and international organizations to support women’s leadership, people with disabilities, indigenous inclusion, youth empowerment, and access to natural resources in rural areas. He has initiated then led several projects focused on inclusive governance, fact-checking for peacebuilding, and sustainable agriculture, with emphasis on amplifying women and indigenous voices. He is the co- or/and founder of several grassroots initiatives that promote civic engagement and digital innovation, two incubator (Okapi and LIFE) spaces for young women. He has experience on both emergency response and long-term development programs for having worked with organizations such as FAO, UNOCHA, FES, Gender2Connect, ActionAid, and Women for Women International in conflictual areas in DRC and abroad. With a background in crop sciences and gender studies, he is an includer who stands for inclusion, diversity, and participative to addressing community problem solutions and building capacity approaches. He believes that future is feminine and everyone can become a leader if he/she is offered an enabling environment from the ground up for a lasting impact and community change. He advocates for access to natural resources and production for refugees and IDPs as he believes that no one chooses to be displaced far from their home country or place. But we, all can choose to act. |
