Abstract

Presenting a paper written for the BASIC (better assistance in crises) research programme that explored the disconnects between how social protection and humanitarian actors approach accountability and what that means for attempts to link social protection and humanitarian cash approaches in crises. It argues that there are fundamental differences in terms of how accountability is understood but that in practice the mechanisms being used are often similar. Better linkages would need not just finding a common language but getting beyond technocratic thinking to engage more with the politics of accountability in crises.
