Abstract

Ms Lanieta Tuimabu is the Manager of the Fiji Disabled Peoples’ Federation (FDPF) and a Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commissioner. FDPF was established in the lates 1970s is the umbrella body for four affiliats and has 15 community based branches throughout Fiji. FDPF is a member of the Communications Community Engagement Working Group that is a sub group of the Communications Cluster, one of the nine members of Fiji’s Disaster Management Cluster adopted to improve coordination.

Ms. Tuimabu will speak about the importance of disability friendly messaging during emergencies and share issues and struggles that the FDPF members faced during the first and second wave of COVID-19 in Fiji and how the FDPF has changed its approach and services to provide food rations and PPE gear for members. She will also speak about the importance of communications, coordination and networking have enabled the FDPF to function effectively during the pandemic.
