The qualitative results of the training experience in the course "New perspectives on birth" are presented. The "New perspectives on birth" project was created by a midwife, a medical anthropologist, a resident in gynecology and obstetrics and two obstetrician-gynecologists, who are actively participating in all phases. We have carried out the training sessions during the second semester of 2021, at the Hospital Sant Pau in Barcelona (public hospital).
A session was held on legal guidance: in particular, on the concept of women's autonomy in labor; another session focused on observing obstetric violence from an anthropological and intersectional gender perspective; and finally, a Forum Theatre related with the caring dynamics within the health system context was built with all the participants. A field study with (semi)participant observations and in-depth interviews with various professionals were also carried out.
The main objective has been to recognize obstetric violence in daily practice. Specifically, we wish to develop training tools to improve the relationship between professionals working around the birthing and postpartum processes and women.
Nursing assistants, midwives, pediatricians, obstetricians-gynecologists and anesthetists participated in the course.
