Over the last six years, climate change has displaced 43 million children and disrupted education for 40 million annually. Anticipatory action, especially through Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA), has proven effective in reducing the impact of climate shocks. This case study evaluates the use of CVA before and during the 2024 Nigeria flood season. Save the Children tested how anticipatory and shock-responsive cash transfers—along with early warning messaging and community-based cash-for-work programs—helped households avoid harmful coping strategies and build resilience. The study compared anticipatory CVA with shock-responsive CVA, aiming to guide future programming with evidence-based insights for more sustainable, impactful interventions.
