Abstract

Migrants leave their home for complex reasons and often without full information on what their journey or the future may entail. They may face dangerous and difficult conditions during transit, with heightened risks and potential barriers to accessing essential services. With an evolving global landscape and increasing hardships faced by migrants in different contexts, what happens after people on the move reach their destination?

Drawing on insights from two distinct research projects, we explore the destination phase of migration - specifically what are the humanitarian considerations for migrants upon arrival? What are the challenges, the risks, protection concerns and the heightened vulnerabilities some migrants may face? What are the priority humanitarian needs and what gaps or barriers may hinder access to safe, dignified and essential services? Join us as we present reflections and invite dialogue on routes-based migration with a focus on the humanitarian considerations in a country-of-destination context.
