Abstract

Standards and Reforms are developed and endorsed because everybody wants change but their effective implementation is often challenged because nobody wants TO change. This paper seeks to investigate how Standards and Reforms can use change management theory to drive effective change in the international aid sector. It brings together two sets of ideas and discussions that have tended to develop in rather separate domains: (1) change management to guide how we prepare, equip and support individuals to successfully adopt change (Prosci); and (2) quality & accountability management to guide how we intervene responsibly and satisfy the needs of communities and people affected by crisis. This paper is specifically focused on two main questions: 1.What needs to change? How can we help individual and organisations in identifying Standards and Reforms that are relevant for them? 2. How to change? How can we help individuals and organisations in putting Standards and Reforms into practice?
