| Bio | Helen is a multidisciplinary researcher and educator who conducts theoretical and empirical studies of learning in a range of informal and formal settings. As Head of Educational Research and Delivery at Kindling Safety, she applies critical and feminist research methodologies to understanding and delivering education for disaster risk reduction and improved fire safety, particularly in low resource settings. Kindling specifically aims to reduce the unequal impact of fire on people, property, and livelihoods. Helen’s theoretical and methodological contributions are situated within critical social theory and approaches to education, disaster studies, development, and humanitarianism. She continues to supervise doctoral and master’s students in a range of disciplines and engages with the humanitarian and development sectors through research and practice. |
