Bio Fatma Özdogan is an accomplished architect and researcher with a diverse international portfolio that includes professional architectural projects in Qatar, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, complemented by extensive research experience in Türkiye, Canada, Colombia, and Lebanon. She earned her initial master's degree from Yildiz Technical University in Türkiye, specializing in integrating disaster risk reduction principles into architectural education. Subsequently, she was awarded the Martin Wilkinson Scholarship at Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom, where she completed a second master’s degree in development and emergency practice. This interdisciplinary program focuses extensively on disaster management, urban resilience, and sustainable development. Her research within this context specifically explored the urban planning challenges resulting from conflict-induced migration. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD at the School of Architecture, Université de Montréal, Canada. Her doctoral research explores how disaster narratives (how destruction and reconstruction are framed by various actors) influence post-disaster recovery strategies and shape the built environment. Her broader research interests include sustainable reconstruction, urban resilience, risk-informed urban planning, and the socio-political dimensions of disaster management. Her work emphasizes integrating empirical research, policy analysis, and practical implementation to bridge gaps between theory and practice. In addition to her research, as a Visiting Lecturer at Bahçesehir University, she has designed and currently delivers comprehensive online courses focused on disaster response and recovery. These courses combine theoretical frameworks, empirical research, and real-world case studies, encouraging students to critically assess disaster management strategies within diverse hazard scenarios, cultural contexts, and governance systems.
