Abstract
The vital role played by humanitarian organizations in various fields,
and their significant contribution to responding to crises and disasters, providing support to local communities, providing humanitarian assistance to communities affected by natural disasters or armed conflicts, defending human rights, policy-making, community development, and more, is highlighted. In light of the increasing and severe occurrence of disasters around the world, exacerbated by climate change and armed conflicts, the most vulnerable and vulnerable communities and individuals are most affected by their risks. This highlights the importance of applying the principles of good governance in disaster and crisis preparedness and response, in order to protect lives, property, and communities. This includes promoting transparency, accountability, and responsibility in resource management and disaster-related decision-making, as well as the importance of involving affected communities in the planning and implementation process, in addition to developing laws, policies, plans, and institutional arrangements related to disaster risk management, building the foundations upon which a strong disaster risk management system is based, and protecting people from the effects of crises and armed conflict. • The working paper aims to raise awareness of the benefits of corporate governance in humanitarian work, particularly in the areas of disaster and crisis preparedness and response, and to support and assist those interested in developing humanitarian work and adopting the concept of corporate governance in responding to disasters and crises.
• The presentation includes: The concept and principles of governance in humanitarian work and risk management; the importance and role of governance in disaster risk reduction; mechanisms and means of implementing governance in risk reduction and mitigating the damage of disasters; and lessons learned from the role of humanitarian government in mitigating natural, political, and security crises in Libya over the past ten years.
