In the context of global migration, the concept of "return" has become increasingly complex as political, economic, and social dynamics shift on both local and international levels.
This panel seeks to explore the diverse dimensions of migrant return processes, focusing on two key elements: voluntariness and dignity. While migration often involves a permanent or temporary movement to a host country, the return process requires a reconsideration of identity, social integration, and the challenges of reintegration into one’s country of origin.
The panel will critically examine how migrant return is not merely about physical relocation, but involves a complex impact of emotional, social, and economic factors.
It is anticipated that the answer to the question below will be reached at the end of the panel.
- How can international and national migration policies better address the needs of return migrants?
This panel will bring together experts from various fields such as humanitarian sector professionals, migration studies academics, donors, other stakeholders to engage in a multidisciplinary discussion on the complexities of migrant return. Panel participants are also expected that exploring examples of successful return policies and programs, and the lessons they offer for improving the dignity and voluntariness of the return process.
By the end of the Panel, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how return can be made more dignified and voluntary for migrants, and how policies can be designed to better support returning migrants in their reintegration efforts. The panel will also provide a platform for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share innovative solutions to the challenges surrounding migrant return.
