In this book launch we will present a new textbook on humanitarian action that provides a concise and practice-oriented introduction to the workings of the humanitarian sector and the key contemporary debates surrounding it. As the humanitarian system is facing numerous problems and undergoing fundamental reforms, the book invites the reader to tackle these challenges head on, addressing the increasing complexity of humanitarian crises and the implications for humanitarian principles and standards as well as the management of humanitarian projects.
To start an interaction between the authors of the book and the audience, the two editors first give an overview of the rationale, structure and content of the book, before moderating a Q&A session, during which the audience will have the opportunity to learn about the individual chapters and discuss with the authors how existing knowledges and practices may have to adapt to new realities. As such, the book launch not only introduces the book, but also wants to offer a space for a joint reflection on how to build, transmit and adapt knowledge about humanitarian action in the light of shifting political realities, evolving new practices and inclusion of marginalized or new knowledges.
