As climate change intensifies the frequency and complexity of humanitarian crises including conflict, the need to adapt health systems and responses has never been more urgent. This panel brings together researchers and practitioners to explore how climate shocks and protracted conflict intersect to challenge humanitarian health delivery — and what’s being done to address it.
Drawing on insights from Elrha and APHRC’s 2025 Humanitarian Health Research Forum, the session will highlight recent research on climate and humanitarian health across several different health thematic areas. Complementing this, panelists from National Societies and programs supported by the Canadian Red Cross will present frontline innovations in conflict settings such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, South Sudan, and CAR. These include mobile and home-based care, community health worker models, and integrated MHPSS approaches.
Together, these examples illustrate how climate-informed, conflict-sensitive health strategies can be designed and scaled. The session aims to foster dialogue across research and practice, identify gaps, and propose actionable ways to build health resilience in a climate-affected humanitarian future.
