Across the Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement, there is growing recognition of the value of research and evidence in shaping more effective, inclusive, and accountable humanitarian action. From community-based assessments and science-informed response strategies to national policy analysis, research is increasingly shaping programs, advocacy, and strategic planning.
With its global reach, trusted presence in communities, and strong volunteer base, the RCRC Movement is uniquely positioned to support bottom-up, co-produced, locally driven research. To strengthen coordination and learning across the network, the Red Cross Red Crescent Research Consortium (RC3) was established in 2019 as a distributed, collaborative platform. Today, it brings together over 20 RCRC entities engaged in research and evidence generation.
This roundtable brings together RC3 members and partners to reflect on how research is being produced and used across the Movement, and the role it plays in strengthening local humanitarian systems. Participants will share lessons from conducting research in partnership with local actors, including National Societies, universities, local units, and community organizations, and discuss the opportunities and challenges of bridging operational practice with evidence generation, navigating power dynamics, and ensuring research informs decision-making at various levels. The session will showcase diverse examples and examine how locally grounded research enhances program relevance, equity, and impact.
Rather than presenting formal papers, this roundtable will offer a space for open dialogue among panelists and participants. It aims to foster exchange on how to integrate bottom-up research approaches within humanitarian systems, build equitable partnerships between practitioners and researchers, and support the uptake of locally grounded evidence in policy and programming.
